5 Rhythms

How can we realise our true potential?
How can we be continually inspired and connect more deeply to our creativity?
How can we become more alive – here and now?

(Meaning: not necessarily changing the outside circumstances like job, place, family etc.)
How can we have more self-discipline without becoming hard, narrow minded and aggressive?
How can we be more patient and loving, to ourselves and others?
Gabrielle Roth's "5 Rhythms©"
CHaOs
STACCATO Stillness…
are challenging, gentle joyful, and powerful tools that allow us to find personal and collective answers to these questions and more.

It is a conscious movement practice that starts with the body and is a great catalyst for freeing our minds, body, heart and imagination and helps us to find the bridges that reconnect these levels again - to each other.

Over the last 10 years, I have experienced a lot of misunderstanding about this work, mostly because there are some “so called” 5 Rhythm peer groups who attract many people to their events but rarely seem to have much interest in the depth and essence, also it is often used by therapists not trained by Gabrielle Roth who only also see it and present it as a “dance technique,” when I was accepted by her to teach, I understood that this is my vocation, therefore there is no border between my life and work. This is the commitment of the shaman: total commitment, risk and responsibility.

Because our lives are unique, each 5 Rhythms teacher has a different style. My experience is that it has completely transformed my life: I have a much better contact with my masculinity, femininity, feelings, power, sensitivity, creativity, light and darkness, I also have a much clearer / stronger yes to myself and everything alive. Over a period of 25 years, I have studied and worked with a lot of bodywork, therapy and different kinds of meditation and for me the 5 Rhythms is also a very powerful, subtle and gentle method for working with shock, shame and early traumas.
Most of us live in an environment which doesn’t support us being or living in our essence so it fades away, eventually dies and we become “slaves to the system”. Gabrielle understood this destructive process but also the creative potential of the “five distinct qualities of our essence,” her work over the last 45 years has been to communicate this understanding and vision: through books, films, music, with dance and movement, theatre, rituals, symbols etc. etc. continually passing this information on to the Teachers she trains.
The Five Rhythms is very experiential, although it is important to describe them in words, intellectual comprehension alone will never be enough. As we start to understand this work, we will rediscover that life is multi-dimensional, full of opposites – just like us.

George Gurdjieff taught something a little similar, but to participate in and be a student of his work, one had to study with great discipline and depth for years eventually to be initiated, the beauty of the 5 Rhythms is that it can be understood, with practice, by anyone, you don’t even have to be able to dance – just to move some part of your body is more than enough.
Today in most societies, it is very difficult to be accepted and to function without masks, in my classes and workshops I create a safe space so that we can practice putting them aside. The work is simple, powerful, gentle, deep and subtle, with time and practice we will rediscover the 5 different basic qualities of our essence which are already inside of us!, the 5 Rhythms shows us how we can bring harmony to these ‘apparently’ opposite parts, it helps us to find ways of reintegrating them into our lives, bringing transformation, inner balance and a deep respect and acceptance for all of what we are and what life is.
